KYBELLA® is the first and only FDA-Approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin by physically and permanently destroying fat cells. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When KYBELLA® is injected into the fat beneath the chin, it destroys those fat cells, rendering them unable to store or accumulate fat. Fat cleared from the treatment area is processed through your body’s natural metabolism.
It will usually take 2 to 3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart to get optimal results, depending on the extent of the excess fat.
Yes, the fat cells destroyed do not return. However, if you would gain a lot of weight, you will get fuller since there are still fat cells in the area.
Your KYBELLA® treatment will take approximately 30 minutes. The Certified Injector will use a grid to draw the boundaries of the injection site for easy application. A temporary grid is applied to the underside of your chin to act as a guide for the injector who will administer multiple tiny injections. You may feel warm in the area after the treatment, but this subsides fairly quickly. It will be important to ice the area after the treatment and while it is swollen. The swelling can take a few days to a week to settle down.

KYBELLA® requires no downtime and you are free to return to work or your daily activities immediately. Some bruising and swelling is possible post treatment and could last for several weeks. Additionally, over-the-counter pain relievers should resolve any discomfort at injection sites.

You may have some discomfort after the treatment that is usually taken care of with over the counter pain medication. The area will feel tender and hard. You can have a bruise and/or swelling that could last a week or more.
